A single crochet hook is a simple hook with a single crochet stitch, the same kind of technique that is used for making the French knots. The most common hook that you might see in the store is the four bar hook, but there are other styles of hook, called the “back loop” hook. A back loop hook allows you to make stitches that go forward in one direction and backward in another.
Back loops are called “single crochet” because you can easily make a single crochet of any length. I started making my back loop stitches for my back loop crochet patterns that I am making at the moment.
The back loop crochet stitches are easy to make and they are fairly forgiving. The only problem is that they aren’t as quick as the front loop ones. So they can get a little bit longer than you might like. I actually made a few of these back loop crochet stitches myself, and I got better results.
